Who is Han?

I am a 24 year old german illustrator and aspiring children's book author. I studied graphic design in Aachen Germany, where I also finished my bachelor degree in 2024. In the course of my studies I wrote two children's books that opened my heart and soul for writing and illustrating for children.Ever since I was a child I loved dinosaurs and anything that swam, crawled or flew back then million years ago. I want to share this obsession with you in my illustrations and my books.Since I started drawing regularly as a 12 year old back then in 2014, I dreamed of sharing my art and joy through being a freelance artist.Recently I've really been looking into getting myself out there and displaying and selling my art in artist alley in the german convention community. I look forward to meeting you in the artist alley soon!

My Art Journey

Here I am going through the phases of my journey as an artist, from being a kid obsessed with dinosaurs to a young adult... being just as obsessed with dinosaurs.I hope I can inspire young artists like I was myself through showing where I started out and where I am today.Never stop believing in yourself and do the things you love!

My Childhood

As a kid I was obsessed with dinosaurs and consumed any media possible that showed me those big prehistoric birds and lizards. As an 8 year old I started writing and scribbling my own little science books with all the facts that I collected from different magazines, books and documentaries.I went full circle with my dinosaur books, 15 years later I am there where I began my art journey. And I am lovin' it!

The edgy teenager phase

When I was 13 I started to draw more seriously and almost every day with the goal to improve and find my own art style. That was around the time where I first started to post my art on social media as well. I joined the furry community and drew a lot of canines, specifically wolves. I drew a lot with traditional art media, such as pencil, fineliner and copic markers back then. I even started uploading speedpaints of my progress.

First digital art

While I was 14 to 16 I played around a lot with my art style and digital art tools. At that time my main drawing program was Firealpaca and my main drawing medium was my old Wacom Graphic Tablet. That was also the time when I changed from my normal school to a graphic design/art school and got exposed to more theory and art design.

Finding my Style

In my years leading up to being 18 I tried to really find the art style that suited me and that I enjoyed myself. I wanted to have a toony but dynamic and unique style that is recognizable but one that I specifically will love myself.
I switched my drawing medium to my old Ipad Pro from 2018 and was so excited to draw on a screen. I started out the year drawing on Autodesk Sketchbook but after a couple month found out about Procreate. To this day I never left Procreate.
While searching for my own art style I got inspired by a lot of different artists and came up with a lot form language myself but also took characteristics from other styles of fellow artists that I enjoyed most.
At this stage I especially experimented with fur texture and toony anatomy.

Refining my Style

After already spending years in the art community and being comfortable expermenting and trying out new characteristics in my style I slowly crystalized a style out of all the hours of drawing.
I got rid of busy looking fur textures but kept the characteristic stripe cell shading that I used on all my drawings back then.

My Style Today

My Style today focuses on being clean shaped, expressive and soft colors and lineart. I am still experimenting with shading and the lineart style. But my goal is to draw warm and dynamic looking illustrations.
I am trying to expand my style into landscape and sceneric illustrations now as well. I always focused on character illustrations and creature designs, never on the surroundings of a character.

Art is always a journey and there is no ending in getting better and evolving your style and skills. Just keep doing what you love doing!
